FAQ

Questions,
answered.

The things people most often ask us — about how we work, what we charge for, and what makes us different.

What services does Squirrels & Bears offer?

We are a full-service consultancy covering marketing, public relations, and graphic design — from strategy through to execution. That includes marketing strategy, social media, content and copywriting, email and event marketing, earned media and thought leadership, award submissions, personal branding, and design work spanning pitch decks, reports, infographics, social assets, signage and merchandise.

What is pay-per-result PR and how does it work?

Pay-per-result PR is our performance-based model for public relations: you only pay when we deliver coverage. No results, no fee. It's a rare model in the industry and particularly attractive to SMEs with tight budgets, because it removes the risk of paying a retainer without guaranteed outcomes.

Who do you work with?

We work with B2B, B2C and not-for-profit clients across the UK and Europe — deliberately keeping to a small number of clients at any one time so every engagement gets senior attention. Our clients range from professional services and technology firms to consumer brands and charities.

Who will actually work on my account?

Senior people, always. Every engagement is personally overseen by our founder, Petra Smith. We work as an embedded partner rather than a distant vendor — senior strategic thinking applied directly to your business.

Where are you based?

Our studio is at 180 Strand, London WC2R 1EA. We work with clients across the UK, Europe and globally.

Do you work with businesses outside the UK?

Yes. Through S&B Europe we support businesses across Europe, with specialist expertise in Central and Eastern European markets. We help Slovak and CEE companies build visibility and credibility in the UK and international media, with English-language coverage and market-entry communications.

What is marketing psychology and why do you emphasise it?

Marketing psychology is the study of why people buy. We use psychological principles — that influence rather than manipulate — to build strategies that go beyond creative execution alone. The most effective marketing isn't the loudest; it's the most precisely targeted, the most psychologically grounded, and the most honestly delivered.

Can you help our brand appear in AI search results?

Yes. AI discoverability — sometimes called generative engine optimisation (GEO) — is an area we actively work in and write about. AI search engines evaluate consistency, specificity and third-party evidence across your entire digital footprint, and we help businesses build the earned credibility and structured presence that makes them visible in AI-driven discovery.

What makes Squirrels & Bears different from other agencies?

Four things: we're senior-led with every engagement personally overseen; we offer a rare pay-per-result PR model; our strategies are grounded in marketing psychology rather than creative execution alone; and as a boutique consultancy we're an embedded, agile partner invested in outcomes — not appearances.

Do you take on pro bono work?

Yes. We give our time and expertise to organisations doing important work — including our ongoing partnership with children's charity Coram and our support of Highgate Art Fair. If you're a charity or cause interested in exploring a pro bono partnership, we'd love to hear from you.

Does business size matter to you?

No — it's one of our founding beliefs. Whether a business is “squirrel-sized” or “bear-sized”, it can build a highly visible brand that drives customer loyalty and sales. What matters is ambition and a willingness to do things properly.

How do we get started?

Start a conversation. Email us at hello@squirrelsandbears.com or use the contact form, tell us about your business and where you want to go, and we'll work out the best way to get there together.
